ABOUT MOVIE METAL

Although the music of Dragontor sounds similar to symphonic and epic metal, there are still some important differences. Typical for the new Movie Metal style are these points:

  • The lyrics are the most important thing - they are telling a story like a film - the role of the music is secondary. Instrumental songs are also telling a story and sound like film-soundtracks. (Read lyrics of songs on bandcamp).
  • All stories of the songs are part of one big epos and play in the same fantastic world, the 'Seven Hills'. (Read more about the Legends of Seven Hills on www.sevenhills.online).
  • Important characters, things or places have their own LEITMOTIFS, which are repeated just like in the soundtrack of 'The Lord of the Rings' and other movies. They guide the listener through the whole SEVEN HILLS music. (Listen to single LEITMOTIFS on YouTube).
  • Because of all these aspects it is typical, that the songs sound different to each other (one like Folk Metal, the other like Gothic Metal and so on) depending on the story and the characters which appear.
  • The symphonical and choral parts of the songs are composed like film soundtracks in their harmonics (complex chords or tonality), melodics (often polyphone) and instrumentation (rich string and brass section) while the drums variate between soft and hard playing with double bass. Besides the classical solos the lead guitar plays LEITMOTIFS as a lead-melody or as a metal riff. The rhythm-guitar accompanied often in a power-metal style while the flute section and the other classical instruments like harp, piano, violin and so on are composed with a folk / medieval charakter. The lead-vocals are either soft (like folk) or powerfull (like opera) dependig on the story of the song.

Especially the third and the fourth point are really different to any other metal style and the reason to call it 'MOVIE METAL'.
